Children & Youth
Here at Naples United Church of Christ, our goal is to model Christianity as a love- centered spiritual path based on the teachings of Jesus. We offer a “curriculum of interiority”, teaching students to “be still and know” through centering prayer, walking the labyrinth, and journaling.
We realize that parents are their children’s primary faith formers and that faith is a journey we all take together. We provide the necessary tools for parents to help their children and themselves to learn about worship, faith and what it means to be a Christian. All children and youth are welcome to attend our programs. We welcome everyone at any time and have a safe church policy.
Nursery and Childcare
Is available for children 6 months to 4 years old during our worship services. A cry room is also available so you can still participate in the service while being with your child.
We welcome all preschool and elementary children to Sunday school. The children begin in the 9:00 a.m. worship service with their parents, grandparents, or friends. Following the children’s sermon we invite our children to church school in Nelson Hall. Our Bible lessons are interactive and encourage the children to develop and share their faith.
Communion Sundays and Cans for Communion
On the first Sunday of every children are invited to participate in this sacrament with their parents and the congregation. There are activity bags available that will help guide your child through the worship experience. These Sundays we collect canned goods for Grace Place, one of our mission partners. Families are invited to help sort food as a service project.
Elementary age students meet on Wednesdays during the school year from 3:00 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. (Pick-up and recreation from 5:15 – 5:30 p.m.) There will be rehearsals for children’s choir and students will also have rotations in art, crafts, games, cooking and gardening or optional homework help. (Pick up from Seagate Elementary is available.)
We meet during our Junior Disciples Program from 4:15 – 4:45 p.m. (3rd–5th grade) and from 4:45 – 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons. The choir sings periodically during the school year in the Sunday services. When the children sing, we offer a family breakfast between services.
Youth Choir – Our Youth Choir meets on Monday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Beverly Hall. The choir is for young people in grades 6 through 12. For more information, you may contact Dr. Becky Weese-Rumpf.
On Sundays, we meet from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Youth Group is for 6th–12th graders and is a gathering of open-minded youth welcoming of diverse perspectives. After some “hang out” time, we have discussion, study and prayer time. We also provide fun and educational outings, retreats, service opportunities and summer “Justice Journeys”.
Starting in October each year, we offer a Confirmation program that traditionally takes place during a young person’s 8th grade year. Confirmation is the process through which a young person affirms their own faith and becomes a full adult member of the church. Confirmands are encouraged to view their faith as a life-long journey while learning about the Bible, the identity of the UCC, the elements of the worship service, and spiritual practices to help provide a framework to connect to God.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer in June, we have a one-week Vacation Bible School open to the community. Volunteers from the church, parents, and the staff participate in all aspects of the program. Each year we have a record number of volunteers helping make this event a successful intergenerational event.
Service and Justice
We teach the importance of serving the community and encourage youth and family participation in volunteer service projects, which provide assistance to those in our community. We also participate in a number of events during the year which promote justice for all people.
