Youth Programs

About Our Youth Programs

Children and youth are an important part of Naples United Church of Christ. We encourage them to serve, learn, and enjoy fellowship with others. It is our desire to educate children and youth to make an educated personal choice in their faith. Call or email Ms. Nancy or Ms. Jane more information on the following programs!

Nursery and Childcare – For children 6 months to 4 years old is available during all worship services.

Church School – We welcome all preschool and elementary children to Sunday school. The children begin with the 9:00 a.m. worship service with their parents, grandparents, or friends. Following the children’s sermon, we leave for church school in Nelson Hall. Our Bible lessons are interactive and encourage the children to develop and share their faith.

Junior Disciples – We will meet on Wednesdays during the school year from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. (Pick-up and recreation from 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.) We offer a behavior-over-belief curriculum that teaches God within all, inclusion, compassion, and self-awareness that follows the teachings of Jesus. There will be rehearsals for children’s choir and students will also have rotations in art (classes given by our Palette Pals artists), crafts, games, cooking and gardening or optional homework help. (Pick up from Seagate Elementary is available.)

Children’s Choir – We meet during our Junior Disciples Program (4th–5th grade). We meet from 4:00 – 4:30 (pre-K –2nd grade) and from 4:30 – 5 p.m. (3rd–5th grade) on Wednesday afternoons. The choir sings periodically during the school year in the Sunday services. All year children are learning songs that will be performed for the end-of-year children’s musical. (Additional practice time required in April.)

Special Events: Throughout the year, we go on field trips to the beach, water parks, concerts, and go on kayak adventures. In the fall, we have a “Trunk or Treat” Halloween Festival, and in the spring, an Easter Egg Hunt. Every summer in June, we have a one-week Vacation Bible School open to the community. Volunteers from the church, parents, and the directors participate in all aspects of the program. Each year we have a record number of volunteers helping make this event successful.

Because we teach the importance of serving the community, we encourage youth participation in volunteer service projects, which provide assistance to those in our community. We also encourage children along with youth to participate when we serve at Grace Place and other locations throughout the year.

All children and youth are welcome to attend our programs. It is not necessary to attend Naples United Church of Christ or be part of a family that worships here. We welcome everyone at any time and have a safe church policy!

Youth Choir – There is a brand new choir at Naples United Church of Christ.  Our new Youth Choir meets on Monday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Beverly Hall.  The choir is for young people in grades 6 through 12.  For more information, you may contact Dr. Becky Weese-Rumpf at BeckyWeese@msn.com

Youth Group – On Sundays, we meet from 6 :00-7:00 p.m. Youth Group is for 6th–12th graders and is a gathering of open-minded youth welcoming of diverse perspectives. After some “hang out” time, we have discussion, study and prayer time. Periodically, middle and high school groups are split up depending on topic of discussion. We also provide fun and educational outings, retreats, service opportunities and summer mission trips.

Confirmation – Starting in October each year, we offer a Confirmation program that traditionally takes place during a young person’s 8th grade year, but it is offered to any student in grades eight and above who wish to be confirmed in the church.  The tradition of Confirmation has a long history in the church.  The rite of confirmation through church history became a rite of passage, a coming of age and an affirming of one’s faith. In the United Church of Christ, Confirmation is the process through which a young person becomes a full adult member of the church, even though this is not a requirement.  It is not considered a sacrament like Communion or Baptism, but it is still a process that is held in high regard and recognizes that a young person can make mature decisions about their faith. We view Confirmation as the beginning of an incredibly rewarding and amazing journey with parents (since research indicates the most influential people in a young person’s faith development are his/her parents) and mentors that will hopefully help a young person view their faith as a life-long journey while learning about the Bible, the identity of the UCC and the elements of the worship service.  We will explore individual gifts and see how the unique God given gifts each person has been given can make a difference in the community in which we all live.  For more information, please contact Nancy Van Fleet, Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth.
